Seems like every time we do a new launch I get the same round of questions. What can I do as a small business owner to get my web site found on the search engines? Now there is a ton of ideas out there, but I like to start with a short “must do” list.
1) Create your Google Local Business listing or update it to link it to your new web site.
2) Create your Yahoo Local Business listing or update it to link it to your new web site.
3) Get other local web sites in the area to link to your website and vice versa –the more related back links you have the better
4) Start a Facebook page and link to your web site
5) Start a twitter account and tweet about your business
6) List yourself in as many relevent directories as you can-this will create relevant back links
7) Get a link from your local Chamber of Commerce web site.
Create a Yahoo Directory listing (yes it’s worth the money)
9) Create a DMOZ listing (yes it’s a long shot-but if your one of the lucky ones-it’s well worth the link juice!)
10) Email all your friends with your new web site address!
Search engine results are determined by many factors, the first and foremost SEO friendly design. So start with a really well designed web site, and then in due time with a little work on your part, your web site will soon have front page web results.
Rankings don’t magically happen over night. Have patience.
