So yes, this is what I typed into the search engines to help located the cause of a mysteriously slow Go Daddy hosted WordPress blog.

“Which Plugin Slows Down a Godaddy hosted WordPress Blog”

To my surprise a few hits came up, but none were a plug in that I was running. So I started deactivating my plug ins one by one. To my surprise I was able to find that one in particular was causing the huge slow down. Turns out the plug in that I used for the sitemap was the culprit,Google XML Sitemaps. I deactivated this plug in and the speed returned to what I would consider normal for a blog.

Now don’t think I’m bashing on Google XML Sitemaps, because I am not. I happen to use this sitemap plug in on all of the blogs that I manage. I would also like to note that this is the only blog that I have that is hosted on Go Daddy. So I truly think that Go Daddy and it’s servers are the root cause. Of course when you call Go Daddy they know nothing, except to offer you an upgrade to a dedicated server to improve your performance.

But no matter what or who the cause, I would highly recommend that if you are having a speed issue, that you first begin by deactivating all of the plug ins and then slowly turn them on one by one and see if any of them are the source of the problem

Hope this helps, let me know if you have any experiences that you would like to share.

Yours for a speedy blog,

Kathy
